Morpho is not a song generator. It is a real-time signal processor that uses pre-trained neural networks to re-paint the timbre of whatever you feed it. Three stages, no presets to scroll through.

Feed it the source

Open Morpho in your DAW or run it standalone. Pipe in a vocal take, a guitar DI, a field recording, a humming melody — anything with pitch and dynamics. Latency is low enough to monitor through the plugin while tracking.

Pick a Morpho model

Choose from the five free models or browse the paid library. Each model was trained on a curated, licensed audio dataset — a soprano voice, an analog synth, a bowed cello. The model defines the target sonic character.

A small Tokyo lab,
not a moonshot startup.

Neutone Inc. is an AI music research company based in Tokyo. Their first public product, the free Neutone Fx plugin, was a hosting environment for community-contributed neural audio models — closer to a research playground than a commercial release. Morpho, announced in April 2024, is the first product built around a purpose-built algorithm and a curated official model library.

The Morpho algorithm was designed to train on less data while keeping audio quality reasonable for real-time use. That last constraint — real time — is what makes the plugin interesting to producers and what makes it harder to learn than a one-click song generator. There's no "fix this for me" button.

What we'd flag honestly: Morpho has a learning curve. The paid model library can add up if you collect aggressively. Macro Mode's knob meanings aren't yet standardised across models, which is the most common complaint in the community. Real-time inference is CPU-hungry — older laptops will buffer. None of this is a dealbreaker; it's the price of admission for the kind of sound design Morpho enables.

Which DAWs and operating systems are supported?
Morpho runs as a VST3 plugin, an Audio Unit (AU) plugin, and a Standalone application. What is Cocoon, and how does it differ from Morpho?
Cocoon is Neutone's cloud-based model-training service. It's not a separate app — it lives inside the Morpho plugin window. You buy a Training Token, upload one to two hours of clean source audio (a single instrument or voice), and Cocoon trains a custom Morpho model on Neutone's GPU infrastructure. When the run completes, your private model appears in Morpho's model browser. Cocoon was announced in June 2024 and is open to general users via Training Tokens; the artist-collaboration tier is invitation-based.
Is the training data legal? Where do the models come from?
Every pre-trained Morpho model is built on audio Neutone has the right to use — either licensed material or public-domain recordings. Each model's source is cited directly in the in-plugin browser so you can verify it. This is a position Neutone has held publicly since launch and is one reason the plugin is positioned at professionals concerned with rights clearance. Your Cocoon-trained models use only audio you upload, which you are responsible for clearing.
What is the Macro Mode and the Serendipity control?
Every Morpho model exposes two interaction surfaces. Macro Mode gives you four knobs that bias the model's behavior — they're labeled per model (Drive, Bias, Tone, Mix, etc.) and the meanings differ between models. Serendipity is a single control that introduces controlled randomness into the morphing pass: low Serendipity gives you a predictable, repeatable transformation; high Serendipity makes the model take more interpretive liberties with your input.
How steep is the learning curve, honestly?
Steeper than a song generator like Suno or Boomy. Morpho gives you a knob bank, not a prompt box, and Macro Mode's exact behavior varies between models — there's no universal "make it warmer" lane. Plan on spending twenty minutes per new model learning how it responds. Real-time inference is also CPU-hungry; older machines may buffer at low buffer sizes. If you've used Ableton plugins, Kontakt, or any granular synth, you'll be comfortable inside a session.
How is Morpho different from Suno, Udio, or other AI music apps?
Different category. Suno and Udio generate complete songs from text prompts — they output finished tracks. Morpho doesn't generate music at all; it transforms the timbre of music you already have. If you're a producer recording vocals, guitar, or synths and you want to make them sound like something else, Morpho is the right tool. If you want a finished song from a one-line description, Morpho is the wrong tool and Suno is the right one.
What about CPU usage and latency?
Morpho is designed for real-time use, which means latency low enough to monitor through during recording. Actual numbers depend on your machine and buffer size — Apple Silicon Macs and modern Windows machines have no trouble; older systems may need a higher buffer size. The plugin window shows current CPU and lets you bypass per-model. For mixing rather than tracking, freezing the channel after committing the morph is the standard workflow.
